Odisha Vigilance has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pradeep Kumar Behera of Tigiria Police Station in Cuttack district after he was caught red-handed demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant.
The complainant had submitted counter reports in a village dispute, which were later resolved through a compromise. However, ASI Behera allegedly demanded a bribe to prevent any further action against the complainant based on the counter report. Unwilling to give in to corruption, the complainant approached Odisha Vigilance, leading to Behera’s arrest today.
During the operation, the Vigilance team recovered the entire bribe amount from the accused ASI and seized it as evidence. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three locations linked to Behera to investigate potential disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 12/21.5.2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigations are ongoing, and further details will be revealed as the case progresses.
