AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faced a surprising defeat in his New Delhi stronghold, losing to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by a margin of 3,182 votes.
This marks a significant decline for the IAS-turned-politician, who gained prominence through the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare.
Kejriwal, who has been dealing with corruption allegations and the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ controversy, initially won the New Delhi seat in 2013 by defeating then-Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of the Congress party. He successfully retained the seat in the elections of 2015 and 2020, achieving substantial victory margins.
