Sweden’s Armand Duplantis has once again rewritten pole vault history, breaking his own world record with a stunning 6.28-meter clearance at the Diamond League event in Stockholm on Sunday.
This marks the 12th time the reigning Olympic and world champion has set a new benchmark in the sport.
Duplantis surpassed his previous record of 6.27m, set earlier this year in February, by just one centimetre. Competing in front of a passionate home crowd at Stockholm’s historic Olympic Stadium, he delivered on his promise to attempt a record-breaking leap. Encouraging spectators to rally behind him, Duplantis made his first attempt count, soaring effortlessly past the height as cheers erupted across the stadium.
Australian Kurtis Marschall posed the biggest challenge of the evening but fell short at 5.90m, clearing the path for Duplantis to attempt his historic vault. The Swedish star executed his run-up with precision, planted his pole flawlessly, and glided over the 6.28m mark with seemingly effortless grace.
Reacting with jubilation, Duplantis sprinted from the landing mat, ripping off his singlet in celebration. Joined by his family and partner, he savoured the moment, marking his first-ever world record set on Swedish soil.
The Diamond League event also featured thrilling performances in other disciplines, including Dutch athlete Femke Bol’s dominant run in the women’s 400m hurdles, clocking a season-best 52.11 seconds.
