A crude bomb exploded in the Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar on Thursday, sparking panic among residents and raising serious questions about law and order in the capital.

The incident came just a day after a similar blast at Kalpana Square, where a youth named Raja sustained injuries. Two bomb attacks in two days have challenged police preparedness and heightened public concern.

Eyewitnesses reported heavy smoke and scattered debris following the Laxmisagar blast. Local traders said sand and dust spread across a wide area. Residents suspected that old enmity between the two groups may have triggered the attack.

Police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information. Laxmisagar police began an investigation, scanning CCTV footage and searching for suspects. Preliminary reports suggest the use of a crude country-made bomb, possibly linked to local disputes.

The blast created fear among shopkeepers and residents, many of whom recalled similar incidents in the past. In January last year, miscreants hurled bombs in Haladipadia slum before fleeing on motorcycles. The recurrence of such attacks has left locals anxious and demanding stronger police action.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported in Thursday’s incident. However, the repeated blasts have raised concerns about Bhubaneswar’s security arrangements. Police assured that investigations are underway and promised to nab the culprits soon.

Residents urged the administration to increase patrolling and deploy more police in vulnerable areas. The twin blasts in Kalpana and Laxmisagar have intensified calls for stricter law enforcement to restore public confidence.
