A resident of Shankarpur, Cuttack, allegedly electrocuted a stray dog to death by constructing an electrified fence around his property.
The tragic incident has ignited widespread outrage among local residents and animal rights activists.
The dog, a familiar presence in the neighborhood, became a target after it reportedly defecated on the man’s property. In a bid to prevent the dog from entering his premises, the homeowner set up an electrified barrier, leading to the dog’s untimely demise upon contact with the fence.
Residents in the area expressed their anger and disbelief at the inhumane act, reporting the misuse of electricity to the local authorities. In response, the power supply to the man’s house has been disconnected as a preliminary measure. Authorities have initiated an investigation and are considering legal action under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA).
Local animal rights activists are demanding stricter enforcement of animal protection laws and increased awareness about the ethical treatment of animals. They emphasize the importance of respecting all living beings and advocate for heightened awareness and compassion towards animals.
The community stands united in its call for justice for the deceased dog and hopes for stronger actions to prevent such incidents in the future.
