A horrific incident has shaken the Nisha Industrial Area police station jurisdiction in Angul district. On Saturday, police recovered the body of a 5-year-old girl, suspected to have been raped and murdered by an unknown assailant.
The child had been reported missing since Thursday afternoon, prompting her family to lodge a complaint with the local police on Friday.
According to reports, the girl child, a resident of Kankarei Pijakhaman village, went missing around midday on Thursday. Despite extensive searches by her family and locals, no trace of her was found initially. Following the formal complaint, the police registered a case (No. 74/24) and launched an investigation. On Saturday, the girl’s blood-soaked body was discovered approximately 100 meters from her home, near a mahua tree.
Local residents suspect that the child was subjected to sexual assault before being killed. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene, seized the body, and initiated a detailed investigation with assistance from a scientific team. Preliminary findings have heightened suspicions of rape followed by murder.
In a significant development, the police have detained a youth from the village for questioning. Bloodstains were reportedly found at his residence, raising suspicion of his involvement. The police are interrogating the suspect and continuing their probe to uncover the full details of this gruesome crime.
