An ambulance overturned at Bonda Ghati in Malkangiri district on Sunday, leaving its staff narrowly escaping serious injury.
The accident occurred near Dalakhai when an ambulance from Khairput Health Centre travelled to Bonda Ghati to bring a patient. The vehicle lost balance and overturned, striking the branches of a nearby tree. The branches prevented the ambulance from plunging sixty feet down the slope.
School teachers returning from duty witnessed the accident. They rushed to the scene and rescued the driver along with two staff members trapped inside. Their quick response saved lives and demonstrated remarkable courage.
The incident highlighted the risks faced by emergency vehicles in hilly terrain. Narrow roads and sharp turns often challenge drivers, especially during urgent medical trips. The ambulance crew survived because the tree branches stopped the vehicle from falling further.
Local residents expressed concern about road safety in the region. They urged authorities to improve infrastructure and provide better training for drivers handling emergency vehicles. The accident reminded everyone of the importance of vigilance and preparedness in difficult terrain.
