Alia Bhatt has created history at the 70th Filmfare Awards, setting a new benchmark in Hindi cinema. The actor won her sixth Best Actress Filmfare Award for Jigra, surpassing the legendary Nutan and Kajol, who each held five wins.

The award ceremony, held on Saturday, saw Laapataa Ladies dominate with 13 trophies — the highest for any film — but miss out in the acting categories. Alia Bhatt, Abhishek Bachchan, and Kartik Aaryan took home the top acting honors of the night.

A Historic Win for Alia Bhatt

With this victory, Alia Bhatt now holds six Best Actress Filmfare Awards, including previous wins for Udta Punjab, Raazi, Gully Boy, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. This also marks her third consecutive win, cementing her as one of the most awarded contemporary actors in Indian cinema.

Before Alia, Meena Kumari held the record for most wins until Nutan surpassed her in 1979 with Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki. Kajol later equalled that record in 2011 for My Name Is Khan.

Other notable winners in the Best Actress category include Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit (four wins each), while Vyjayanthimala, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi have each won three times.

Mixed Reactions Online

While fans celebrated Alia Bhatt’s milestone, social media users expressed mixed opinions. Some felt the recognition was well deserved, while others questioned whether it truly reflected her talent.

On Reddit, one user wrote, “They gave her back-to-back awards despite backlash. I thought this year they’d recognize a new face.” Another commented, “It’s unfair to nominate others if the same person keeps winning.”

Comparisons were also drawn with legendary actresses like Waheeda Rehman, Sridevi, and Madhuri Dixit, with one user remarking, “No one refers to Alia as a benchmark of acting like they did with Sridevi or Madhuri.”

Alia Bhatt’s Role in Jigra

In Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala, Alia played a determined sister attempting a daring jailbreak to rescue her brother from death row. Despite receiving positive reviews for her performance, the film earned Rs 55 crore worldwide against a budget of Rs 80 crore.

Alia’s portrayal was praised for emotional depth and intensity, even as the film struggled commercially.

What’s Next for Alia Bhatt

After Jigra, Alia Bhatt will be seen in the YRF Spy Universe and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War.

Her continued success places her among Bollywood’s most accomplished performers, redefining stardom for the next generation.
