The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have officially announced Ajinkya Rahane as their new captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season.
Rahane, a seasoned player with extensive experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL), takes over the captaincy from Shreyas Iyer, who departed the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
In a strategic move, KKR also named Venkatesh Iyer as the vice-captain. Iyer, a significant acquisition for the team during the auction, will support Rahane in leading the team.
Rahane’s appointment marks his return to KKR after a two-year tenure with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he rejuvenated his T20I career and earned a spot back in the Indian national team. With a history of leadership, including stints as captain of Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team, Rahane brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
“It’s an honor to be asked to lead KKR, one of the most successful franchises in the IPL,” Rahane stated. “We have an excellent and balanced squad, and I look forward to working with everyone and taking on the challenge of defending our title.”
KKR fans and the cricket community eagerly anticipate the new leadership duo’s efforts in the upcoming season.
