Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar accepted the resignation of Ambasamudram MLA Esakki Subaya, marking the fourth AIADMK exit in two days and deepening the party’s internal crisis.
Subaya’s resignation follows the exit of three legislators — Maragatham Kumaravel, Sathyabama, and Jayakumar — who joined Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). With this, AIADMK’s strength in the Assembly has dropped to 43 MLAs. Party sources said 27 MLAs back general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, while 16 support senior leaders SP Velumani and CV Shanmugam.
The Speaker initially rejected Subaya’s resignation, demanding a handwritten submission, but later accepted it in line with Assembly rules. He confirmed that all three earlier resignations had been accepted and said he would scrutinise each letter before announcing decisions.
Senior AIADMK leaders met the Speaker, urging him not to accept the resignations, arguing they violated the anti-defection law. IS Inbadurai said the party demanded withdrawal of the resignations, while MLA Thalavai N. Sundaram warned that AIADMK would approach the court if concerns were ignored.
