Agnivesh Agarwal, son of Vedanta Group founder and chairman Anil Agarwal, passed away at the age of 49 following a sudden cardiac arrest in the United States. The industrialist described the loss as the “darkest day” of his life, sharing the news in an emotional message on social media.

According to Anil Agarwal, Agnivesh suffered a medical setback during treatment after a recent skiing accident in the US. He was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and was believed to be out of danger before the unexpected cardiac arrest claimed his life.

Who Was Agnivesh Agarwal

Born on June 3, 1976, in Patna, Bihar, Agnivesh Agarwal was a respected business leader and philanthropist. He completed his schooling at Mayo College, Ajmer, and later went on to establish Fujairah Gold. He also served as Chairman of Hindustan Zinc, one of Vedanta Group’s flagship companies.

Beyond his professional achievements, Agnivesh was known for his humility, compassion, and wide-ranging interests. Remembering his son, Anil Agarwal described him as a sportsman, musician, leader, and above all, a deeply humane individual.

“He was not just my son, but my friend, my pride, and my world,” Agarwal wrote, adding that no parent should ever have to bid farewell to their child.

A Family’s Grief and a Shared Vision

Expressing profound grief, Anil Agarwal said he and his wife Kiran are heartbroken by the loss. However, he reaffirmed their commitment to the values they shared with Agnivesh—giving back to society and working toward a future where no child sleeps hungry, every child receives education, women are empowered, and young people have access to meaningful employment.

Referring to his son affectionately as “Agni,” Agarwal recalled their pledge to donate more than 75% of their earnings to social causes through philanthropy.

Condolences from PM Modi and Others

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, calling Agnivesh’s untimely passing “deeply shocking and saddening.” In a message on X, the Prime Minister prayed for strength and courage for the bereaved family.

Anil Agarwal also thanked friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for their unwavering support. “There was so much life ahead of him and so many dreams yet to be lived,” he said, adding that he would strive to carry forward his son’s light and legacy.
