The active depression over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining northern Chhattisgarh has accelerated rapidly towards the north-northwest direction at a speed of 25 km/h over the past six hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system centered near the border of northeast Madhya Pradesh and southeast Uttar Pradesh during the afternoon hours of September 26.

As per IMD’s location tracking, the system was positioned approximately 30 km northeast of Rewa (MP), 50 km northwest of Sidhi (MP), 90 km south-southwest of Prayagraj (UP), 150 km south-southeast of Fatehpur (UP), and 170 km south of Fursatganj (UP).

Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, reported that the depression will continue its north-northwest trajectory through northeast Madhya Pradesh and southeast Uttar Pradesh. Over the next 12 hours, the system is expected to weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area over Uttar Pradesh.

However, atmospheric activity remains high in the region. An upper-air cyclonic circulation extending up to 9.4 km above sea level is currently active over central Thailand and neighboring Myanmar. Weather models indicate that this system will shift toward the North Andaman Sea and Myanmar’s Ayeyarwady region by September 27. Over the subsequent two days, the circulation is projected to move north-northwestward across the Myanmar-Bangladesh coast, advancing into the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Bangladesh.

Under the influence of these twin atmospheric systems, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by squally winds, thunderstorms, and lightning is expected across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Eastern India, and the Andaman region.

The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for Odisha for the next 24 hours, alerting residents to brace for heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and potential lightning strikes. Authorities have advised people in affected zones to take necessary precautions.
