The Basic Training Institute (BTI) at Burla in Sambalpur witnessed a proud day as 1,027 sepoy trainees of the 5th batch successfully completed their foundational training and participated in a grand passing out parade.
Director General of Police (DGP) Odisha, Vinaytosh Mishra, attended the ceremony as the chief guest and took the salute at the parade.
Addressing the passing out batch, DGP Mishra congratulated the trainees on their dedication and praised the academy for delivering high-quality training. He urged the new recruits to step into the field with courage and prepare themselves to face evolving law-and-order challenges.
Highlighting the core philosophy of the state force, Mishra said, “Service and Security” is the founding motto of Odisha Police. He stressed that protecting women, children, and vulnerable sections of society must remain every officer’s foremost duty. The DGP called upon the new sepoys to uphold professionalism, empathy, and positive public conduct to elevate the police image in the community.
Tested in the Field Before Graduation
The 1,027 trainees had already demonstrated their operational readiness ahead of graduation. During their training period, they were actively deployed for major law-and-order duties across multiple districts, including:

Puri: Law and order management during the annual Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra.

Sundaragada, Sambalpur, Baleshwar, & Bhadrak: Maintaining peace during Ram Navami celebrations.

Sundaragada, Sonpur, & Jharsuguda: Security bandobast during Hanuman Jayanti.

Mayurbhanj: VVIP security duties during the visits of the President and Prime Minister.

Sambalpur: Management during the Sital Sasthi festival and the Chief Minister’s official visit.
