South Odisha witnessed extremely heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours under the influence of the deep depression, with Nabarangapur emerging as the worst-affected district, according to rainfall data released by the Special Relief Commission (SRC) office.
Tentulikhunti in Nabarangapur recorded the highest rainfall in the state, receiving 395.0 mm in the last 24 hours.
Nabarangapur records intense rainfall
Several locations across Nabarangapur recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall during the period.
After Tentulikhunti, Nandahandi received 344.0 mm, while Jharigram recorded 240.2 mm and Kosamgunda 240.0 mm.
Chandanhandi received 229.6 mm, while Umerkote recorded 205.1 mm.
Other stations in the district also recorded rainfall exceeding 150 mm, including Nabarangapur town, Raighar, Papadahandi and Dabugaon.
Koraput sees extremely heavy downpour
Koraput was another district that witnessed intense rainfall.
Borigumma recorded 307.8 mm, followed by Kotpad at 272.0 mm, Similiguda at 267.0 mm and Jeypore at 258.2 mm.
Laxmipur, Koraput town and Narayanpatna each recorded rainfall close to 200 mm.
Bandhugaon, Boipariguda and Kundra also received more than 150 mm of rain.
Heavy rain in Kalahandi
Several parts of Kalahandi also recorded heavy rainfall.
Golamunda received 202.0 mm, while Kokasara recorded 152.0 mm.
Jaaipatna received 126.0 mm and Thuamul Rampur recorded 115.4 mm during the 24-hour period.
North Odisha also receives heavy rain
Heavy rainfall was also recorded in parts of northern Odisha.
In Baleshwar district, Oupada received 128 mm of rainfall, while Khaira recorded 122 mm in the last 24 hours.
The rainfall comes as the weather system, which had earlier intensified into a Deep Depression over Odisha and adjoining areas, continues to weaken while moving north-northwestwards.
