An Air Quality Digital Display was inaugurated today at the Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar, a unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).
The installation formed part of the celebrations marking the 43rd Foundation Day of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) and the 38th anniversary of the Regional Science Centre.
The display was inaugurated by Dr Manoj V. Nair, IFS, Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board, Odisha, in the presence of scientists and staff of the Regional Science Centre and dignitaries from the Board.
The new system presents key air-quality indicators, including the Air Quality Index (AQI), PM2.5 and PM10, in a simple digital format that visitors can read at a glance. It also shows selected weather parameters such as wind speed and temperature.
Officials said the display is intended as a learning tool, especially for students, to help them understand air pollution, particulate matter and the link between environmental conditions and daily life. By bringing live environmental data into a public science centre, the facility supports the Centre’s work on scientific temper and environmental education.
Kapil Jain, Centre Head, Regional Science Centre, Bhubaneswar, said the launch was an important step towards strengthening public awareness of air quality among visitors, particularly young learners.
The Centre plans to use the display in environmental awareness programmes, student activities, demonstrations and outreach, with the aim of encouraging citizens to take a more informed interest in cleaner air and a more sustainable future.
