Gajapati Wakes to Depression Fury: Landslide and Fallen Trees Block Key Roads, Hitting Traffic

The persistent downpour has caused landslides and uprooted trees in several blocks, severely impacting road movement and regional transportation networks.

Mohana Records Highest Rainfall

According to official reports recorded at 8:00 AM today, the district accumulated a total of 633 mm of rainfall, averaging 79 mm across all blocks. Mohana block bore the brunt of the weather system, recording the highest rainfall in the district at 145 mm. The incessant rains have forced locals indoors and derailed daily commute routines.

Landslide at Paribheta Disrupts Traffic

In R. Udayagiri block, a major landslide occurred near Paribheta village under Bastriguda panchayat. Huge boulders and mud slid down the hillside, blocking the main arterial road connecting R. Udayagiri to Parimala.

Upon receiving information, the R. Udayagiri Block Development Officer (BDO), along with rescue teams, swiftly reached the spot to assess the situation. Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported. Heavy machinery and clearance teams are actively working to remove the debris and restore normal traffic flow.

Uprooted Trees Block Key Routes

Emergency services are on high alert as uprooted trees continue to obstruct major thoroughfares:

• R. Udayagiri Block: Around 7:00 AM today, a large tree collapsed onto the R. Udayagiri–Ramagiri–Parisal main road, bringing all vehicular movement to a standstill. Personnel from the R. Udayagiri Fire Services arrived at the scene and began cutting down branches and clearing the road.

• Nuagada Block: A similar incident was reported along the Olesing road under P. Antarada panchayat, severing traffic between Nuagada and Udayapur. Rescue teams from the Nuagada Fire Department were dispatched immediately to clear the route and restore connectivity.

Local administrations across Gajapati district continue to monitor low-lying areas and remain on alert for further weather updates.
