Odisha-born Dr Prasanna Kumar Acharya has assumed charge as the new Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Limited (NLCIL), marking a new chapter in his nearly three-decade professional career.
Dr Acharya took charge at NLC India’s corporate office in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday. Before his elevation to the top post, he served as the company’s Director (Finance).
Nearly Three Decades Of Professional Experience
Dr Acharya brings extensive experience across the power, mining and infrastructure sectors. Over the course of his career, he has held key positions in reputed organisations, including GRIDCO, NTPC and Tata Power.
He has also contributed to major infrastructure initiatives, including the Phase-II project of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
His experience spans finance, infrastructure development and organisational transformation, providing a broad professional background for his new leadership role at NLC India.
Strong Academic Credentials
Dr Acharya also has an extensive academic background.
He holds Graduate and PhD degrees in Commerce from Utkal University, along with a degree in Law and postgraduate qualifications in Commerce and Business Administration.
He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India and an Associate Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
Contributions To NLC India
During his tenure as Director (Finance) at NLC India, Dr Acharya was associated with several initiatives involving digital transformation, modernisation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, artificial intelligence-based systems and financial reforms.
These initiatives have formed part of the company’s efforts towards modernising its operations and strengthening its systems.

Dr Acharya hails from Kendrapara district of Odisha.
With his experience across multiple sectors and his previous leadership role at NLC India, his appointment as CMD places him at the helm of the company at a significant stage of its growth and development.
