The Meteorological Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued rain and thunderstorm warnings across Odisha over the coming days.
Heavy downpours are expected to batter northern Odisha over the next 48 hours, with another intense spell anticipated across northern and southern belts starting September 23.
According to weather forecasts, a cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over the North Andaman Sea by the evening of September 18. Under its influence, a low-pressure area will form over the East Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea by September 19. The system is predicted to intensify gradually and move west-northwestward, approaching the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh around September 23.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm and lightning warnings apply to Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kataka, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur.

Friday Alert: A Yellow Warning for heavy rain and lightning covers Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kataka, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Sept 19 to 22: Yellow warnings for lightning and scattered showers will remain active across northeastern and coastal districts. Conditions are expected to remain temporarily calm statewide on September 22.

Sept 23 Onwards: As the low-pressure system approaches the coast, fresh yellow warnings for heavy rainfall have been issued for Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
