A horrifying incident of violence has sent shockwaves across Debagada district after a 28-year-old youth was allegedly murdered and his body set ablaze after sneaking into his girlfriend’s home late at night.
The tragic incident took place under the jurisdiction of Reamal Police Station.
The victim has been identified as Silu Ray (28) of Babarakote village. According to local sources, Silu and the girl had been in a relationship for a long time, which frequently led to disputes within the girl’s family.
Silu, who had been staying away from home, returned to his village on Wednesday evening. Late that night, he allegedly entered his girlfriend’s residence to meet her. Infuriated by his intrusion, the girl’s family members reportedly launched a fatal assault on Silu. In an attempt to destroy evidence, the family allegedly poured petrol over his body and set it on fire.
Upon receiving information about the gruesome event, Reamal Police rushed to the spot and initiated a preliminary investigation. Cops have detained the girl alongside two of her family members for questioning.
Police stated that the victim’s body will be sent to the Debagada District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem analysis following the arrival of a forensic scientific team.
“While the incident appears to stem from a love affair, the exact motive and sequence of events will become clear after thorough investigation,” said Reamal Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Binay Kerketa, adding that police are probing whether additional suspects were involved in the crime.
