Odisha is set to experience much-needed relief from the scorching heatwave as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts rain and thunderstorms across the state.
The temperature is predicted to drop by 2-3°C, offering respite to residents who have been enduring temperatures above 40°C in some regions.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with speeds reaching up to 50-60 km/h in several districts. The warning is valid until April 5, urging residents to stay indoors during lightning and secure loose objects to avoid damage.
The early showers are expected to benefit farmers preparing for the Kharif cropping season by enhancing soil moisture levels. While parts of Odisha will continue to experience heatwave conditions, the forecasted rain is a silver lining, replenishing groundwater and improving air quality.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms and prepare for possible disruptions.
