Police have launched a firm crackdown in Raurkela following a violent street clash between two rival groups of youths from adjacent slums, arresting 21 individuals in connection with the unrest.
According to authorities under the Sector-7 Police Station jurisdiction, the clash stems from a long-running animosity between youths residing in the Jamtoli and Anandamarga slums of Sector-6. The bad blood between the two factions reportedly traces back to an altercation during the Holi festival earlier this year.
Tensions escalated significantly on August 30 following a confrontation near Ambagan that left several youths from the Mahima Ashram slum injured.
Seeking revenge, a group of youths from Mahima Ashram allegedly barged into the Jamtoli slum late Friday night, launching a targeted attack on several residents. One young man sustained severe injuries during the assault and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The late-night raid triggered widespread panic and heightened tension across the neighbourhood. To prevent further violence, police forces were immediately deployed throughout the affected areas to maintain order and restore calm.
Following swift investigations, police rounded up 21 suspects representing both involved factions. All accused were presented before the court on Sunday, as security remains beefed up across Sector-6.
