A shocking incident came to light on Sunday morning in Badasahi village under the Tumudibandha police limits of Kandhamal district, after the body of a newborn baby was found floating inside an under-construction septic tank.
According to reports, the incident happened about one kilometer from the Tumudibandha police station. Property owner Ramachandra Chand had recently started building a new house and had dug a pit for a septic tank . Construction had been stopped for the past three days due to continuous rain caused by a low-pressure system, leaving the newly dug pit filled with rainwater.
On Sunday morning at around 10 AM, as the weather improved, Chand went to the construction site to restart the work. While checking the back of the house, he saw the body of a newborn baby floating in the water-filled pit.
Chand immediately reported the matter to the Tumudibandha Police Station. Upon receiving the information, a team of police personnel arrived at the scene along with the Fire Services personnel, who subsequently retrieved the newborn’s body.
The Tumudibandha police have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation to determine the identity of the infant and the circumstances leading to the death. The unprecedented incident has sparked outrage and widespread discussion across the region.
