Odisha’s capital city, Bhubaneswar, transformed into a dazzling spectacle on the eve of Utkal Divas, also known as Odisha Foundation Day.

Major government buildings, including the iconic Raj Bhavan, the State Assembly, the Secretariat, and the Police Commissionerate, were adorned with vibrant, colourful lights to mark the occasion.

The celebrations, which began on March 31, set the stage for the 89th anniversary of Odisha’s formation as an independent state on April 1, 1936.

Utkal Divas is a day of immense pride for the people of Odisha, celebrating the state’s rich cultural heritage and historical identity. The tradition of illuminating government buildings has become a hallmark of the festivities, symbolizing unity and joy. This year, the buildings glowed in shades of pink, blue, and purple, creating a mesmerizing view against the night sky.

Across the city, the festive spirit was palpable. Public spaces were decorated with flags, banners, and flowers in the colors of the state flag, as residents prepared for a day filled with cultural events. Utkal Divas celebrations typically include Odissi dance performances, folk music, and community gatherings that showcase Odisha’s vibrant traditions.

The illumination of government buildings not only enhances the festive atmosphere but also serves as a reminder of Odisha’s resilience and unity. As the state commemorates its foundation, the people of Odisha come together to honour their shared heritage, making Utkal Divas a cherished occasion for bonding and celebration.
