A major fire broke out at a three‑storey residence in Bhimatangi Lane‑5 under Airfield police limits on Thursday.
The house, belonging to Sadananda Patra, was engulfed in flames while no occupants were present inside.
Neighbours first noticed smoke and fire billowing from the building and immediately alerted the Fire Services Department. Firefighters rushed to the spot and, after sustained efforts, managed to bring the blaze under control.
Though no casualties were reported, the fire destroyed several valuable household items. Preliminary suspicion points to a short circuit as the cause, though officials said the exact reason and extent of damage will be confirmed after investigation.
Authorities noted that the incident highlights the need for greater electrical safety awareness in residential areas.
