An emotional farewell was accorded to CRPF Jawan Jayaprakash Gahir, who passed away suddenly while serving the nation.
Hundreds of grief-stricken locals gathered as his mortal remains arrived at Kantabanji to pay their final respects.
Jayaprakash was posted in Bilaspur. On the day of the incident, as he was preparing to leave for duty, he experienced severe chest pain. He was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility, but doctors declared him dead shortly after arrival during treatment.
Upon arrival, his mortal remains were brought before the Kantabanji police station, where a large crowd assembled to pay tribute. A massive funeral procession subsequently traversed through Kantabanji town, attended by local intellectuals, youth, ex-servicemen, social activists, and leaders across various political parties, all honouring the soldier’s service to the nation.
Following the procession, his mortal remains were taken to his native village, Kharbahali, under the Belpada block. Police personnel rendered a Guard of Honour to the fallen jawan. His last rites were subsequently performed in his native soil in the presence of his family, relatives, and fellow villagers.
Jayaprakash’s untimely demise leaves behind his wife, two young children, and an elderly father. As he was the primary breadwinner, intellectuals and local community members have urged the state government to provide financial assistance and long-term support to secure the future of his grieving family.
