A shocking incident unfolded at Raurkela railway station in Odisha on Thursday when a 20‑year‑old woman was allegedly raped inside a valve room on the station premises.
The accused, identified as Kapileshwar Singh (54), a valve man employed at the station, was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) following the survivor’s complaint.
According to police, the woman, a resident of Nuapada district, had arrived at the station to travel to Bengaluru. Without a confirmed ticket, she was waiting near the main entrance when Singh offered to help. He allegedly lured her into the valve room under the pretext of arranging a ticket, where the assault took place.
The survivor later identified Singh when he reported for duty. She was taken to Raurkela Government Hospital for medical examination.
The GRP registered a case under Section 64(2)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A scientific team has collected evidence, and further investigation is underway.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Chakradharpur Railway Division, Aditya Choudhary, stated that strict action would be taken against the employee if the allegations are confirmed.
