In a bid to build a drug‑free society and safeguard the future of youth, the Commissionerate Police Special Crime Unit carried out a special crackdown in Kalpana, Laxmisagar and Tankapani Road areas of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The operation targeted shops near educational institutions suspected of selling ganja, gutkha and pan masala. Police teams inspected pan masala and stationery shops, seizing suspicious items and questioning shopkeepers.
Officials said the drive aims to protect students from exposure to addictive substances, as easy access near colleges and schools poses a serious risk. Reports of coded transactions and rising addiction trends prompted the intensified action.
Students of city colleges also joined the campaign under the banner of “Nasha‑Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat”, pledging to say no to drugs and adopt healthy lifestyles. Their collective voice reinforced the message that a strong and healthy youth today will build a powerful India tomorrow.
Police confirmed that the operation will continue, with strict legal action against those found selling banned substances.
