The derailment of the Kamakhya Express near Nergundi railway station in Odisha’s Cuttack district has left one passenger, Subhankar Ray from Alipurduar, West Bengal, dead, while seven others are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The derailment has shaken the region, prompting swift relief measures from authorities.
To ensure the safety and convenience of stranded passengers, a special train has been arranged to help them reach their respective destinations. In addition, the State Transport Authority (STA) has deployed senior officials and eight buses to facilitate the transfer of injured passengers to medical facilities.
Cuttack District Magistrate Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde addressed the incident, stating, “One person has died in the incident…7 people injured needed a referral and have been shifted…An inquiry is being conducted into the incident.” Officials are working diligently to restore normalcy and provide aid to those affected.
Authorities have assured that every possible effort is being made to mitigate the impact of the derailment and bring relief to the passengers.
