The Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Dr Debendranath Nayak, Former Senior Surgery Specialist at District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Jharsuguda.
Dr Nayak, who had retired from service, was charge‑sheeted under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to conduct a hydrocele operation of his cousin.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine. Following the pronouncement, Dr Nayak was immediately sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance has also announced that it will move the competent authority to stop his pension benefits in light of the conviction.
