The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the combined convocation ceremony of 18 National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campuses in New Delhi today.
Addressing the gathering, the President highlighted the textile and apparel sector’s role as both cultural heritage and livelihood backbone for millions. She emphasised that supporting traditional artisans would encourage future generations to continue the craft with pride.
She praised initiatives like NIFT’s Craft Cluster Programme, which connects artisans with modern techniques and markets, and urged graduates to seize opportunities as India expands its global footprint in fashion technology.
The President advised students to maintain a global outlook while staying rooted in India’s cultural values, creating world‑class products that are also eco‑friendly. She stressed the importance of using local raw materials, recycling remnants, and adopting circular economy practices for sustainability.
Murmu underlined that the youth will play a pivotal role in achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047, urging NIFT graduates to help artisans enhance productivity and income while preserving authentic craft identities.
She expressed confidence that NIFT will continue to integrate sustainability and social responsibility into its strategic vision, ensuring India’s fashion sector contributes to both global recognition and cultural preservation.
