Ruchika Singh, who came into the national spotlight following allegations of abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother at a protest in Delhi, has resurfaced in a new video circulating widely on social media.
The latest clip has drawn renewed attention to the controversy, particularly because of the stark contrast between its tone and an earlier video in which a woman identifying herself as Ruchika and claiming to be 15 had apologised for the alleged remarks.
In the newly circulated video, a woman alleged to be Ruchika is heard making fresh allegations against Prime Minister Modi and saying that she will not back down.
“Modi ji, you have made my life hell,” the woman allegedly says in the video. She further claims that she has been hounded and has had to hide her face in public.
The woman also allegedly says she has “nothing to lose” and uses strong language against the Prime Minister.
Authenticity of new video unclear
The video’s authenticity has not been independently verified. The date and location of its recording, as well as the identity of the woman featured, remain unclear.
Therefore, the statements attributed to the woman in the clip should be treated as allegations rather than independently established facts.
The video has nevertheless triggered a fresh wave of discussion on social media, with users expressing sharply divided reactions. Some commenters have voiced support for the woman, while others have questioned the circumstances surrounding her appearance and the renewed controversy.
What happened in the Ruchika Singh controversy?
Ruchika Singh’s name first emerged in connection with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 23, where allegations were made that offensive language had been used against Prime Minister Modi.
A complaint was subsequently filed, and Noida Police registered a Zero FIR on July 29. The matter was later transferred to Delhi Police.
The controversy intensified after conflicting claims emerged about Ruchika’s age.
Initial complaints and reports described her as 25. However, in a subsequent viral apology video, a woman identifying herself as Ruchika said she was 15 years old.
In that apology, she said she had attended the protest with friends and claimed that she had been influenced by the atmosphere and people around her.
The complainant later said that information about her identity and age had been obtained from social media comments and had not been personally verified.
PM Modi had appealed for leniency
Amid the controversy, Prime Minister Modi appealed for a lenient approach towards young people. Ruchika’s apology video subsequently circulated widely, while reports indicated that police were examining her claim of being a minor while considering further action.
Later reports said the complaint had been withdrawn and that the case would not be pursued further.
The emergence of the latest video has now put the controversy back in the spotlight. However, with the video’s authenticity and the identity of the woman yet to be independently established, several questions surrounding the clip remain unanswered.
