Actor Emraan Hashmi has been diagnosed with swine flu, or H1N1, in Mumbai, even as his latest film Awarapan 2 continues to perform strongly at the box office.

The actor’s diagnosis was confirmed by his representative, with a medical report also cited as proof of his illness.

Hashmi, who has been enjoying a successful phase professionally, is now recovering from the viral infection. The development comes amid a reported rise in H1N1 infections in several Indian cities during the monsoon.

Emraan Hashmi diagnosed with H1N1

According to the report, Hashmi has tested positive for H1N1, a strain of influenza A commonly known as swine flu.

The infection can initially resemble a regular viral fever, with symptoms such as fever, body ache, sore throat, cough, runny nose and fatigue.

Doctors have, however, warned that some cases can become more serious, particularly when symptoms intensify or fail to improve.

Dr Manav Manchanda, director and head of respiratory, critical care and sleep medicine at Asian Hospital, recently told HT City that H1N1 can involve more pronounced symptoms such as breathlessness, chest discomfort and persistent cough.

He advised seeking medical attention if symptoms worsen, particularly in cases involving difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain or pressure, bluish lips, increasing cough, confusion or reduced urine output in children.

Awarapan 2 continues box office run

While Hashmi focuses on his recovery, his latest film Awarapan 2 continues to draw audiences to theatres.

The film has crossed the ₹200 crore mark at the box office, adding to what has been a strong professional run for the actor.

Directed as a sequel to the 2007 cult favourite Awarapan, the film stars Hashmi alongside Disha Patani, Puran Gabbi and Shabana Azmi.

The sequel has also generated attention for bringing Hashmi back to the brooding romantic-crime drama territory associated with several of his earlier films.

The film’s performance has added another successful chapter to Hashmi’s career, even as the actor deals with his health setback.

What is H1N1?

H1N1 is an influenza virus that can cause symptoms ranging from fever and cough to body aches, fatigue and sore throat. In some people, particularly those at higher risk of complications, influenza can lead to more serious respiratory illness.

With monsoon conditions often favouring the spread of respiratory infections, health experts have urged people to monitor persistent or worsening symptoms and seek medical care when necessary.

For now, Hashmi is recuperating from the infection, while Awarapan 2 continues its theatrical journey.
