The body of a Class VIII student was recovered from a drain behind Gumuda Government High School under Borigumma block in Koraput district on Wednesday, three days after he went missing from the school hostel.
The deceased, identified as Gurunath of Marada Maliguda village under Haradaguda panchayat, was staying in the hostel managed by the ST & SC Development Department. His body was found in a blood‑soaked condition behind the school premises.
Reports indicate that Gurunath had been missing since Monday, but school authorities allegedly failed to inform police or higher officials about his disappearance. Family members also claimed they were not notified by the school.
Local Zilla Parishad member Nrusingha Nath Satapathy expressed deep concern, calling the incident “unfortunate” and demanding strict action against those responsible.
Police from B. Singhpur station reached the spot, recovered the body, and have begun an investigation to determine the cause of death and possible negligence.
