Fresh violence broke out in Manipur’s Senapati district early Monday, leaving several houses burnt and a CRPF jawan injured in a gunfight between two groups, police said.
According to officials, the unrest began around 2:30 am when miscreants torched a house in Taphou Kuki village in Kangpokpi district. Retaliatory arson followed at Naga Taphou in Senapati around 4 am, escalating tensions. A CRPF personnel was later injured in a gunfight at Taphou Naga around 9:20 am and admitted to Senapati District Hospital, where his condition is stable.
Security forces have since strengthened deployment to restore order. The incidents triggered protests, with locals blocking National Highway‑2 by burning logs and tyres, disrupting traffic movement.
The Taphou Kuki Village Authority condemned the violence and demanded identification of the culprits within 24 hours.
Since May 2023, ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki‑Zo communities have claimed more than 260 lives and displaced thousands, leaving Manipur in a prolonged state of unrest.
