In a significant anti‑corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Dr. Hrudananda Samanta, Former Assistant Project Officer, Indo‑British Health Organization, Puri (Retired), in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
On 24 August 2026, the Hon’ble Additional Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, sentenced Dr Samanta to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000 under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income.
Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authority to stop his pension benefits following the conviction. Officials said the verdict strengthens accountability measures and sends a strong message against misuse of public office.
