With Raksha Bandhan and festive celebrations around the corner, the Food Safety Commissioner, Smt. Poma Tudu has reinforced enforcement drives in Kataka and Bhubaneswar, leading to major seizures of adulterated and stale food.
In Kataka, raids led by Health Officer Dr Nupendra Satpathy uncovered 71 quintals of adulterated paneer worth Rs 17.75 lakh, supplied through autos from Nilai area. The paneer was seized from multiple locations including Press Chhak and Link Road trainline, transported to Satichaura dumping yard, and samples sent for chemical testing. Officials warned that such adulterated paneer acts as “slow poison” and vowed strict legal action once lab reports arrive.
In Bhubaneswar, joint raids led by Designated Officer Satyajit Patel targeted malls and food outlets at Nexus Esplanade, Symphony Mall, DN Regalia, CRPF, Rasulgarh, and Kalinganagar. Around 66 kg of stale food was seized, ten samples collected, and closure notices issued to six establishments.
