Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra on Monday informed that most of the Omicron cases detected in the State on Sunday are asymptomatic.
Mohapatra said that 19 of the 23 Omicron cases detected yesterday are asymptomatic. The variant is highly contagious but severity is low.
He further stated that Omicron cases are being identified locally, so more transmission is likely.
The official said that those returning from foreign countries are undergoing COVID-19 test in the state. If found COVID positive, the samples are being sent to the ILS, Bhubaneswar for genome sequencing to ascertain the variant of the virus.
He also urged people to maintain social distancing and adhere to COVID appropriate behaviour.
