In a high-level review meeting at Lokaseva Bhavan, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today closely monitored the progress of two ambitious projects — the mega redevelopment of SCB Medical College & Hospital in Kataka and the transformation of the iconic Hanuman Vatika in Raurkela.
The Chief Minister was informed that the world-class SCB mega project is moving ahead rapidly. Four new clinical blocks and one residential block are under construction. While the residential block is almost complete, the clinical blocks are scheduled to be finished by June next year. Impressed by the pace, Majhi directed officials to immediately identify space and prepare a proposal for one additional medicine block to further strengthen healthcare services.
A major focus of the meeting was the multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility currently under construction in the first phase. The CM strictly instructed that the parking complex and the Taladanda Canal-linked traffic corridor must be completed within the stipulated timeline. Once ready, the modern parking will ease the daily rush of thousands of patients, attendants and doctors at both SCB Medical and the nearby Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre.
Majhi also emphasised comprehensive beautification of the areas flanking the Taladanda Canal. He called for wider roads, landscaping and a pleasant environment so that the medical campus becomes not just a treatment centre but a patient-friendly healing space. The project will also integrate the surrounding institutions — Bose Engineering School, Biju Patnaik Film & Television Institute and the Odisha State Maritime Museum — into a cohesive urban development plan.
Turning to Raurkela’s famous Hanuman Vatika, the Chief Minister directed the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC) to redesign the entire development in a pure spiritual architectural style. He asked for acceleration of the ongoing and proposed Kalyan Mandap and other spiritual structures inside the premises while strictly preserving the sacred atmosphere and natural surroundings.
Outside the Vatika, the Works Department has been instructed to prepare a detailed project report for beautification, wider approach roads and proper illumination so that devotees can experience a serene and well-managed spiritual destination.
Law, Works & Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, senior bureaucrats, and local officials, including the Kataka Collector and Municipal Commissioner, were present in the meeting.
With these clear directions, both projects are expected to move into high gear, promising better healthcare infrastructure for Cuttack and an elevated spiritual experience for devotees in Rourkela.
