Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has opened up about a more personal side of motherhood, revealing that her daughters, Anya and Diva, sometimes struggle with insecurities about their appearance.
Farah made the candid revelation during a recent episode of her YouTube vlog featuring Lock Upp 2 contestant Akanksha Choudhary. The conversation turned to self-confidence and appearance after Akanksha spoke about feeling insecure about her looks as a teenager.
Farah, who is generally private about her children’s lives, responded by sharing that her daughters have experienced similar feelings.

During the conversation, Akanksha recalled how she viewed herself when she was younger. She told Farah that she used to consider herself “the ugliest in the world” and showed the filmmaker some of her old photographs.
Farah then related Akanksha’s experience to her own daughters.
“Please meet my daughters then! Even they feel that they are very ugly,” Farah said.
Akanksha, who has met Farah’s daughters, reassured her that they are “very cute.”
The exchange offered a glimpse into the pressures young women can face regarding their appearance, regardless of how they may look to others.

Akanksha also spoke about how her relationship with her own appearance has changed over the years. She said that she has become considerably more confident and now feels comfortable being herself, even without makeup.
Farah praised Akanksha’s appearance on Lock Upp, particularly when she appeared without makeup. However, the filmmaker also admitted that she was surprised by some of Akanksha’s behaviour during her stint on the reality show.
Farah recalled being “horrified” when Akanksha threw water on Shreya Kalra’s bedsheet and got into a heated confrontation with her.
Farah has largely kept her children away from the spotlight
Farah shares three children — triplets Diva, Anya and Czar — with filmmaker Shirish Kunder. Although she frequently shared photographs of them when they were younger, she has generally been more private about their lives in recent years.
In May, Farah shared photographs from her children’s graduation ceremony at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. The siblings are set to begin their university education this year.
Farah has previously spoken about the financial challenges of sending three children to university. In an episode of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, she revealed that the prospect of paying for three university educations was one of the reasons she decided to expand her work on YouTube.
Farah’s YouTube journey
Farah has increasingly turned to YouTube after a period when she was not directing films. She has built a popular format around cooking, celebrity conversations and informal interactions with guests.
Speaking about the decision previously, Farah said she wanted to try something different while also dealing with the significant expense of having three children entering university.
Her latest conversation with Akanksha, meanwhile, showed a more personal side of the filmmaker as she discussed the appearance-related insecurities faced by her daughters.
