Scores of sanitation and security workers staged a sit‑in protest outside Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, demanding payment of pending wages from the contractor agency.
The protesters, many of them women, alleged that they have not received salaries for several months, leaving their families in financial distress. “We work daily but haven’t been paid regularly. It’s becoming impossible to manage household expenses,” said one of the workers.
The employees, engaged through a private agency, said they will continue their demonstration until their dues are cleared and regular payment is ensured.
The protest has caused partial disruption to cleaning and security operations at the hospital. Patients and attendants expressed concern that essential services might be affected if the standoff continues.
Hospital authorities have yet to issue an official statement, though sources indicated that discussions with the contractor may be initiated to resolve the matter.
