The Excise Department carried out a special raid in Deodhara Gram Panchayat under Komna police limits on Wednesday.
Acting on the instructions of the District Excise Superintendent, officials from the Nuapada Excise Range seized a large quantity of liquor, including 30 litres of beer, 10 litres of IMFL, 8 litres of ID liquor, 23 litres of OS liquor, and 150 litres of palm toddy.
Five persons were arrested for illegally storing and selling liquor. Cases have been registered under the Excise Act, and the accused have been forwarded to judicial custody.
The raid was led by Excise Inspector Hirabati Thati, Sub-Inspectors Brundabati Bhuya and Mangal Chhatria, along with other staff. Officials confirmed that similar raids will continue to completely curb illegal liquor trade in the district.
