Tension flared at Sishu Bhawan Square in Bhubaneswar after the death of a minor sparked allegations of medical negligence and delayed clearance.

The family staged a road blockade with the body, accusing hospital authorities of failing to discharge the child on time and withholding medical clearance.

The boy, from the Samantarapur area, was admitted Thursday night with vomiting and severe headache. Doctors later declared him brain dead, but family members alleged that no official clearance was given and discharge was delayed until late night. On Friday morning, the child was declared dead.

Accusing the hospital of negligence, the family staged a protest, leading to unrest in the area. Medical authorities, however, denied the allegations, stating that due procedures were followed. They further lodged a counter‑complaint, alleging that hospital staff were subjected to misbehaviour and assault by the child’s relatives.
