J&K on High Alert: Three Killed in Two Terror Attacks Within 10 Days Despite Tight Security

Fresh terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir have once again raised concerns over the security situation in the Union Territory, with three people killed in two separate incidents over the past 10 days despite heightened security arrangements.

The latest attack took place in Kulgam district on Saturday, where terrorists opened fire at a brick kiln in Kilam village, killing two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh. One worker died at the scene, while the second succumbed to injuries during treatment at the Government Medical College in Anantnag. The incident marks the second terror strike in south Kashmir within two weeks.

Earlier, on July 22, Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi of the IR 3rd Battalion was shot dead by terrorists in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk while he was deployed for Amarnath Yatra security duty. The attack was the first reported terror incident in the Kashmir Valley since the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives.

The recent attacks have renewed focus on the security environment in Jammu and Kashmir, especially as the region continues to witness heavy deployment of security personnel following the 2025 terror strike on tourists in Pahalgam.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Kumar Sinha strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly act of terror.” He assured that security forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police are actively pursuing those responsible and that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the killings and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

The attack on migrant workers has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of non-local labourers working in the Valley. A similar incident occurred in February 2024 when two workers from Punjab were shot dead in Srinagar’s Shaheed Gunj area.

Security agencies have intensified search operations in the affected areas following the latest attack. Investigations are underway to identify the attackers and determine whether the incidents are linked to any terror outfit operating in the region.

The back-to-back attacks underline the continuing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir despite ongoing counter-terror operations and enhanced surveillance across sensitive districts.
