Vedanta Aluminium Coal Mines, India’s largest aluminium producer, has extended nutritional support, counselling and follow-up care to over 180 tuberculosis (TB) patients in Balishankara Block of Sundargarh district through its Nikshay Mitra initiative. The programme aims to strengthen treatment adherence, improve recovery outcomes and support the well-being of patients throughout their treatment journey. As part of the initiative, over 717 nutrition kits have been distributed, alongside regular counselling and awareness sessions, reinforcing community healthcare at the grassroots level.
Implemented under the Government of India’s Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the Nikshay Mitra initiative reflects Vedanta Aluminium Coal Mines’ commitment to supporting the vision of a TB-free India. The initiative forms part of the company’s broader efforts to strengthen community healthcare and improve quality of life in its operational areas, having reached over 154 beneficiaries during FY 26. In recognition of its contribution to the national TB elimination mission, Vedanta Aluminium Coal Mines has been awarded a Certificate of Completion by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Sharing her experience, Lusia Tete, a resident of Balishankara Block, shared:“ The journey of recovering from tuberculosis was not easy, but the nutritional support and counselling I received helped me remain motivated and complete my treatment. The encouragement and support I got from Vedanta Aluminium Coal Mines team gave me confidence and reminded me that I was not alone in this journey. I am grateful for the support and care I received during my recovery.”
These efforts are complemented by Vedanta Aluminium’s broader community development initiatives around its coal mining operations, which have reached over 2 lakh people across 26 villages. Vedanta Aluminium continues to support development across Odisha through focused interventions in healthcare, education, livelihoods, infrastructure, and social development, working closely with local stakeholders to create long-term impact.
