The handicrafts & handlooms are the soul of Odisha. It is our moral responsibility and duty to take forward the glorious tradition, said Pradeep Bala Samanta, Minister of Cooperation, Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts.


Gracing the closing ceremony of the 7th Kalabhoomi Utsav Hon’ble Minister said, we are committed to promoting & development our rich tradition of handicrafts & handlooms in every soul.

Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, Commissioner-cum-Secretary addressed regarding various initiatives taken by the department for the welfare of artisans and weavers. Prem Chandra Choudhary, Director, of Textiles and Handlooms said that Kalabhoomi is the symbol of rich handicrafts and handlooms of the state.

Madhumita Rath, Spl. Secretary delivered the welcome address while Pranati Chhotray, Director, Handicrafts and MD, Boyanika proposed a Vote of thanks.

The Utsav included a workshop on stone carving “Sthapatya: Etching Livelihood on Stone”, a painting competition, a summer camp, two-day workshop on packaging, labelling and branding with the Indian Institute of Packaging, Kolkata. The Minister distributes the prizes to the winners of various competitions.

To celebrate the foundation day of Odisha Crafts Museum ‘Kalabhoomi’ the five day long Utsav was organised by the Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts department from 22nd to 26th March at Odisha Crafts Museum “Kalabhoomi.”
