Odisha’s coastline is set for a major transformation with the launch of the 160.18 km Rameshwar–Paradeep Coastal Highway project, developed by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways at a capital cost of Rs 8,300.79 crore.

The project features a 4‑lane access‑controlled highway from Rameshwar to Konark and a 2‑lane paved shoulder highway from Konark to Paradeep, designed for speeds up to 100 km/h. Once completed, travel time between Rameshwar and Paradeep will be reduced by nearly 2 hours 30 minutes, improving both passenger and freight movement.

Aligned with PM GatiShakti, the corridor will connect 9 economic nodes and 5 logistics hubs, strengthening Odisha’s economic network and improving access to Paradeep Port, Puri Railway Station, and the upcoming Puri Airport.

The highway will pass through Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur districts, linking cultural and religious landmarks such as the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Konark Sun Temple, and Ramchandi Temple. It is expected to create a unified tourism circuit combining spiritual heritage, beaches, biodiversity hotspots, and eco‑tourism destinations like Gahirmatha turtle nesting sites.

Officials said the project will also generate opportunities for local communities, encouraging growth in hotels, homestays, restaurants, handicraft markets, and tourism‑based businesses along the corridor.
