India and China are gearing up to revive direct flights between the two nations, marking a significant step towards renewed connectivity.
Chinese Consul General Xu Wei confirmed the discussions during a media briefing in Kolkata, highlighting efforts to restore pre-pandemic routes that were halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic and border tensions.
The resumption aims to reinstate 50 weekly flights, covering cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Kunming in China, and New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, among others in India. Wei expressed optimism about the strengthening bilateral relations, referring to the current scenario as “the spring of China-India relations.”
April 1 will commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and India. Both countries plan to hold celebratory events, aiming to enhance ties further. Chinese authorities are also hopeful that India will relax visa policies for Chinese travelers, fostering increased trade and people-to-people exchanges.
As the two countries navigate diplomatic hurdles, the resumption of flights symbolizes not just physical connectivity but an aspirational renewal of bilateral ties.
