Tension gripped Patharagadia village on Monday evening after a violent clash broke out between residents of Jena Sahi and Behera Sahi, leaving six people seriously injured.
Police have deployed heavy forces to prevent further escalation.
According to reports, the two localities had been at odds since a dispute during last year’s Ganesh Puja. The simmering hostility flared again during a cricket match on Monday afternoon when an argument between Papuna and Jagadish over a comment turned violent.
By nightfall, the confrontation spiralled into a full‑scale fight, with both groups attacking each other with sharp weapons and pelting stones. Several people sustained injuries, two of them critically. Police teams rushed to the spot and managed to disperse the mobs after intense efforts.
To maintain order, four platoons of police have been stationed in the area. Authorities said the situation is under control but remain on high alert as tension persists between the two neighbourhoods.
