Security forces killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday after a five-day-long anti-terror operation.
The encounter took place in the dense orchards of Meemandar, a cluster of seven villages in south Kashmir.
Police confirmed that the terrorist was neutralised by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Shopian in a joint operation with the Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles, 44 Rashtriya Rifles, and the CRPF. The operation began on July 3 after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of LeT operatives in the area.
Security forces maintained a tight cordon throughout the search, with intermittent exchanges of fire between the two sides. The trapped militants were identified as Latif and Zakir, both linked to the Lashkar network.
Jammu and Kashmir Police posted on X, “You can run, but you can’t hide! One Lashkar terrorist neutralised by SOG Shopian in a joint operation with RR and CRPF.”
Officials said the operation demonstrated the coordinated efficiency of security forces in tackling terrorism in the region. The successful elimination of the militant marks another blow to Lashkar’s presence in south Kashmir.
