The Congress party has intensified its demand for the formation of an Assembly House Committee to address the alarming rise in crimes against women in Odisha.

Senior Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati has questioned the government’s reluctance, stating, “Why is the government afraid of forming a House Committee?”

The demand comes in the wake of shocking incidents, including a rape case in the village of a sub-tribal minister and other heinous crimes against women and children.

Bahinipati emphasized the need for stricter laws to curb such atrocities, highlighting the daily reports of violence, harassment, and abuse. He criticized the government for its inaction and called for systemic changes through democratic processes.

The Congress has vowed to continue its movement under the leadership of Bhakta Charan Das until the government takes decisive action. The party has also announced plans to gherao the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday to further press its demands.
